There are different ways to transfer files between your devices. Few involves using USB cable, OTG Pen-drive, Bluetooth, etc. And all these methods are OK if you are going to transfer huge amount of data. What if you want to transfer a single pdf or text file or files of lesser size. Finding your pendrive or cable, connecting it to your system and waiting for the system to detect and then start transferring is quite a lot of time consumed.

Here's a simple trick which may come in handy for you.

1. Open Gmail or any mail service of your choice.

2. Create a new mail and attach the files you want to transfer.

3. If you want to send them to yourself you can do, but it works only on few web services. So, better option is to save it as a draft.

4. Now open the same mail account on the other device and you will have the files in your mail under Drafts. SIMPLE!

        Have you ever wondered how your Facebook profile looks to your friends or people other than your friends? This may be an old feature but still many people are unaware of it. To see it, follow these steps.

1. Click on the SETTINGS option above LOG OUT.
2. From the options available on the left side of the screen, select PUBLIC POSTS.
3. Now under PUBLIC POSTS you can choose who can see your public posts - friends or everybody.
4. If you scroll down a little you can find this link "Want to know what followers can see? View your public timeline".
5. Click on the link. Now on the top of the page you can select options to see your profile as a specific person by typing in their name or just click public. 
    


And you will see how your profile appears for each person on the screen.

    Follow these steps to lock any folder without using software.

STEP 1: Suppose you have a folder named abcd in D:\abcd.
STEP 2: In the same drive next to the folder create a new notepad file with following statement    

                   ren abcd abcd.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}

STEP 3: Now save this file as loc.bat
STEP 4: Create another notepad file and type 

                  ren abcd.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D} abcd

STEP 5: Now save this file as key.bat
STEP 6: Now you get two batch files(loc.bat and key.bat). Double click the loc.bat file and your folder will change into Control Panel and its content cannot be viewed.
STEP 7: To open the folder double click key.bat and you get back your original folder.
 And that is it, you have locked and unlocked your folder without using any software.

NOTE: For more safety, keep the key.bat in another location. Only for unlocking copy paste to the original location and double click.

                 Ia a USB stick stops functioning abruptly, you might be able to save it. Try using in on another PC before deciding it is faulty. If it still doesn't work, you have two options to recover important data from the stick. In each case you must first carefully remove the pen drive's casing. Wrap the circuit board tightly using Scotch tape. In this way, the board is firmly insulated and safe from contact contact with outside objects and safe from short circuits. Check if the drive works now. If the stick starts functioning again, quickly copy all data. If this is a possible last resort-- but beware the device might thus be damaged irretrievably! Often, the solder holding the internal components together tends to get dry and does make good contact. Re-soldering the entire circuit board is impossible by human hands because of the tiny SMD chips used. This needs wave of soldering machine, which is not easy to procure. But you can use your oven at home to do the same work.
               Place the USB stick for five minutes in an oven preheated to 200 C. In this way, the solder melts a little and all contacts are strengthened. It is important that all plastic casing pieces be removed before popping the drive into the oven.
              If the memory modules are soldered on one side of the circuit board, place these upturned. The plastic inside the USB plug should survive this effort unscathed. Once the five minutes are up, shut down the oven and leave the door open for cooling without removing the stick. After approximately 30 minutes, you can remove the pen drive and check whether it works again.

              You want to copy photos from a scratched disc onto the hard drive. But the Windows Explorer aborts the copy process with the error notification 'File cannot be copied'. Where the Windows Explorer fails, the mini-tool 'Roadkil's unstoppable copier' prevails against scratch and damages on the data storage medium.               In order to recover data, select the source and the target drives using the 'Browse' button in the 'Copy' tab. Subsequently in the 'Settings' tab, move the slider approximately to the middle, it is a good compromise between the best and fastest recovery of the data. You should also set the tick in front of 'skip damaged files automatically', otherwise it may take considerably more time till the tool copies the still usable data. This utility is ideal for hard drives, floppy drives, CDs and DVDs which could have bad sectors or partially corrupted file systems.

               If you wish to surf anonymously you can use the service offered by the website anonymouse.org. This does not really depend on the browser that you are using and does not even require installation. You can select the English version on the website. You will now find an input field for the desired Internet address, you can now surf this site anonymously after clicking on "Surf anonymous" option.
             Anonymous surfing does not just offer more protection in case of unknown site, but also generally in practice when you are sending e-mails via online service from some other computer. However, the website does not support any secure connections in the free version over "https".

            You can cajole up to 40 percent more 3D performance from your Nvidia graphics cards without installing additional drivers or dangerous overclocking. Keep in mind that you will be sacrificing image quality for the boost in performance. Changes can be made through the Nvidia system control panel. To open the control panel, right click on the desktop and click on 'Nvidia system settings'. Now under the section '3D settings', click on the tab 'Program settings' and find your 3D game.       save and close the Nvidia control panel once you're done so that all settings are accepted.

               For diagnosing energy consumption, type 'cmd' in the search field of the start menu and then click the file 'cmd.exe' with the right mouse button and select the context command 'Run as administrator'. After confirming the User Account Control prompt with 'Yes', type the command 'powercfg/energy' in the window and press the [Enter] key. Windows will now audit the system behaviour for 60 seconds. In the meantime, you can go on working. Subsequently, the result is saved by default as a file with the title 'energyreport.html' in the currently open folder which you see in the command prompt. Optionally, you can also define a custom target file with the parameter '-output'.

           If you and your family share a computer and you would like to prevent other users from filling the internal hard disk with downloads, you can easily do so with individual user accounts. With individual user accounts, every member is allocated an area to save his/her data. However, if you would like to provide a limited amount of space on the hard disk to every user account, Windows can manage memory allocations. To do this, start Windows Explorer, click with the right mouse button on the icon of the hard disk for which you would like to set up memory allocations. Then select the command 'Properties' in the context menu, activate the tab for 'Quota' in the following dialogue and select 'Show quota settings'. For this, you require administrator rights so must either be using the elevated account or provide the appropriate password when prompted. Put a tick in front of 'Enable quota management' to limit storage space for user accounts. Also activate the option 'Deny disk space to users exceeding quota limit'. You can now define a standard limit for new users. To specify user accounts, click 'Quota entries'. Windows will present all user accounts in a list with their settings for storage limits as well as the location currently in use. You can see absolute values as well as proportional usage of the restricted memory amount. If an account is missing in the list, create a new entry for it with 'Quota' | 'New quota entry'. For conformation, double click any user account. In the following dialogue, you can specify the maximum memory amount for the account as well as a warning threshold level. Exit the dialogue with 'OK' or by clicking the red cross icon on the title bar. Now if the amount of data a user has reaches the warning level of the limit of the memory quota, Windows will show a notification on the taskbar.

PREPARE:

         You require a legal copy of Apple's OSX as an ISO file for this workshop. The PearPC emulator supports OSX versions 10.2(Jaguar), 10.3(Panther) and 10.4(Tiger). First, create a new directory "C:\PPC" and decompress PearPC there. Create a subdirectory "image" in the "PPC" folder. Unpack a blank virtual hard disk - the PearPC image file ( ). This is compresses in the "bz,2" archive format. If unpacking fails, install IZArc ( ) and decompress the image with this tool into the folder "PPC\image". In "pearpc.img", you can change the file name of the packed image file. Lastly, copy the Mac OSX ISO file in the image folder.
         
CONFIGURE EMULATOR:

         Now install the PearPC tool Vbox GUI. Click "New", enter a name, in the wizard and select the operating system to be emulated here. Enter the path to file "pearpc.img" under "Primary master HD image". Give the file path for the ISO file of the Mac OSX in the "IDE slot" field. Exit the wizard with "Finish" and switch the display resolution to "1024x768x32" under "Video". Click "Next" and change the entry to "select" under "Boot -> Boot method". If you have a PC with at least 2 GB of RAM, increase the main memory to 1 GB under "System".

INSTALLING MAC OS:

        Click "Start" to activate the emulator. The tool shows a bootable partition marked with "cdrom0", which you select with the [1] button. Subsequently, the installation of Mac OSX starts. It runs automatically to a large extent and lasts for approximately 40 minutes on a computer with multi-core CPU and 2 GB of RAM. At the end of the installation, PearPC shuts down the Apple operating system automatically. Remove the entry for the set-up DVD using "IDE".

CREATE SHORTCUT:

        Click "Create desktop shortcut" by clicking the main window of VBox GUI to start Mac OSX easily in the future. From now on, you can start your new Apple PC using the shortcut. The operating system requests all sorts of data and a compulsory registration. The registration is used to avoid the installation of the OS copy on several Macs or PCs. Once the system is installed, you can start programs lik iChat, Safari and the QuickTime player using the task bar. Otherwise, open "System settings" and configure the system by yourself.

         Many times, you may need an overview of all the computers currently active in the local wired or wireless network. This is possible from the Windows control panel but it takes a bit of time. However, this overview will not show other devices such as smartphones and tablets using your Wi-Fi network. It is possible to gain a quicker and more complete view through the freeware tool Wireless Net view by NirSoft(http://www.nirsoft.net/ ). The program doesn't need to be installed and you can simply start using it right away by extracting the ZIP archive and running the file 'WNetWatcher.exe'. After a few seconds, you will get a complete list of the active IP addresses with the relevant device names, MAC address and additional information. Use the command 'Options -> Background Scan' for monitoring the network. You can also activate 'Options -> Beep On New Device'. This enables an aural alert as soon as a new device is detected on your network. 
        Note that if you already using a set of NirSoft tools either separately or in windows, then you need not download this again. Just find the tool in the collection.

            If you are using keyboard without a windows key or would like a clickable command, you have another option to lock your computer. This can be done by using the command 'rundll'. Right-click in an empty space on the Desktop and select 'New -> Shortcut'. It will ask you to type the location of the item. Type 'Rundll32.exe user32.dll, Lock Workstation' in the dialog box. After that click 'Next' and insert a name, for example, 'Lock Computer'. Lastly click on 'Finish'. You can assign any icon to the shortcut. Now simply double click it to lock the computer.

          Although Windows 8 doesn't allow you to boot straight to the classic desktop, this can be done with a trick. You have to go through the new tiled interface and automate the change to the desktop using a script. Open any folder in Windows Explorer for this purpose, right click with the mouse button on a free space to the right and select the context command "New -> Text document". Then open the file for editing and add the following lines:

        Now save and close the text file. Your settings will cause the desktop to be called up as if you had invoked it yourself. Next, change the name of the text file, to "Desktopstart.vbs". The extension "vbs" is important here, so that Windows treats the text file as script. Conform the warning regarding renaming with "Yes".
       All you need to do now is copy the VBS file to the startup folder. However, the process would be more streamlined as a scheduled task. To do this, click on "System and Security" in the Control Panel, then on "Administrative tools" and finally double-click on "Schedule task". Begin in the right with "Create task".
      In the "General" pane, type in "Desktopstart" for example, as the name and activate it under the option "Run with highest privileges". After that, switch to the tab "Trigger" and click on "New". At "Start task", select the setting "At login" and confirm with "OK". Now switch back to the tab "Actions" and click on "New" again. Leave the action "Start program" selected and click on "Browse". Now, navigate to the VBS file, open it, and confirm the action with "OK". Further "Conditions" and "Settings" are mostly not necessary. Now, generate the task with "OK" and restart the system for testing. From now on, though you will briefly see the tiled interface, you will be taken to the desktop directly.
